Halftime: Zusi and Di Vaio goals leave Sporting KC and Montreal Impact tied, 1-1

Graham Zusi and Marco Di Vaio did the scoring, and the teams are level, 1-1 at halftime.

Sporting Kansas City may have controlled the majority of play in the first half of Saturday's preseason game against Montreal Impact - and they did without a doubt - but the score is level at 1-1 at the halftime intermission. The two goals came from equally impressive scoring chances finished by Graham Zusi and Marco Di Vaio.

Zusi got things started in the 19th minute when he unleashed a powerful strike from all of 25 or 30 yards out into the upper lefthand corner of Impact goalkeeper Troy Perkins' goal. The pile-driving shot was a throwback to Zusi MLS Breakout Player of the Year award season, which he won in 2011 on the back of a handful of long-range efforts en route to scoring 5 goals in 25 games.

Sporting KC enjoyed a lion's share of the possession and looked more than comfortable moving the ball around with Zusi and defender Matt Besler inserted back into the team, and newcomers Benny Feilhaber and Claudio Bieler linking up for the first time. That lasted until the final moment of the first half when a lackluster mistake saw the ball running the other way in a hurry.

Zusi and fellow midfielder Paulo Nagamura crossed signals - a product of preseason, no doubt - and Zusi turned the ball over in the attacking third. Patrice Bernier intercepted for Montreal and sent a 40-yard through ball slicing through the whole of Sporting KC's side and put Marco Di Vaio in on goal where he coolly finished past Jimmy Nielsen.
