A possibility of a huge friendly match at LiveSTRONG Sporting Park is apparent after a tweet from Sporting Kansas City CEO Robb Heineman.
"Good news tonight on a GREAT friendly. Hopefully we can finish it up. Stay tuned."
Rumors of an English Premier League team coming to LiveSTRONG Sporting Park have been at the forefront of the whispers but there have also been some rumors of an international friendly for the United States against Italy.
An international friendly featuring the United States and Italy has been rumored for a while, and the location might have been decided to be in Kansas City. The last men's international match between the United States and Guadeloupe brought 20,109 people in attendance. A higher profile team like Italy might even bring more.
Although it might be the assumption, if the match is big enough, we might see another match at Arrowhead Stadium. If it is a top EPL team like Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal or Chelsea then Arrowhead might be a more suitable location due to the large amount of people wanting to see a high profile team.
Nothing is yet confirmed about the final, just good news according to Heineman. We may not know anything for months, but if it will be as great as Robb says -- and he is known for pulling off the unexpected -- Sporting KC fans, or just soccer fans in general, should be in for a treat.
In other soccer news, the MLS released the dates for each team's home opener. Sporting's will be on March 17th, the second week of the season. They also said that the full schedule should be released before the end of the year. So, barring a meltdown, we should see the schedule released in the next couple of days. It will be interesting to see what Sporting's looks like with the new format.
Until then, have a great finale to 2011 and Go Sporting!
