A Quick Look at the Latest MLS Player Salaries.

With word that the MLS Player's Union released their most up to date list of player salaries, I thought it would be interesting to look at some of the more surprising salaries, and interesting nuggets on the list.  

I must give fair credit to Mike Kuhn of Down the By Line, who was the first person that I know of to bring the list to light.

• It was surprising to me the discrepancy between the highest paid players and the lowest. In regards to Sporting Kansas City, designated player Jeferson (Sporting's highest paid player) will make a whopping $484,996 in guaranteed compensation. Compare that to rookie Soony Saad, who will make a mere $32, 604. 
• I suppose maybe some of this has to do with the fact that I'm so used to reading about NFL contracts, and deals, but it's hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that the highest paid player on the entire Sporting Kansas City squad doesn't even crack half a million dollars. Compare that to, say, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel, who makes roughly around 12 million dollars a year. 
• Apparently Sporting Kansas City have a guy named Shavar Thomas on the squad, and he will make close to $175,000 this season. I want his job. 
• Just saw Ryan Smith's name. His sudden departure has kind of been forgotten with everything else going on with Sporting this season. It's a shame that he left the squad, although the situation is very understandable. Imagine the gluttony of options Peter Vermes would have at the forward position had Smith stayed. Not that Sporting needs anymore forwards (they don't), but just the idea that Sporting could have had another very good forward is ridiculous. 
• My "Sporting Kansas City Vastly Underpaid" top 3 players; CJ Sapong ($42K), Graham Zusi ($45K), Matt Besler ($58K). Would have to imagine these three will be seeing new contracts sometime very soon.

• LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham brings home over 6.5 million dollars a year just off of his guaranteed compensation alone. Combine that with the $2.3 million of Landon Donovan, and the $3.4 million of Robbie Keane, and the only thing I came away thinking was; the Galaxy are filthy rich. Is there any doubt that they are the New York Yankees of Major League Soccer?
• New York Red Bulls midfielder John Rooney, younger brother of Manchester United star Wayne Rooney, makes $48,000 a year, or roughly the cost of Wayne's hair transplant.  
• Philadelphia's Sebastian Le Toux makes $155K a year. Teammate Freddy Adu makes $475K.  Is there no justice in the world?
• Seattle's Mauro Rosales (a true dark horse candidate for MLS MVP) will make $42, 000 this season. Possibly the best bargain price wise in all of major league soccer.
