Well, every EA Sports FIFA fanatics favorite day is here; the release of FIFA 12! Which means that finally we will see the FIFA debut of our very own Sporting Kansas City! And now, thanks to a hat tip from Scott Kessler of the SB Nation Philadelphia Union blog, Brotherly Game, we are able to see just how FIFA rated Sporting Kansas City's players.
Sporting Kansas City's overall rating in the game is 3 stars out of a 5 star total, or a rating of 66 out of a possible 100. This year's highest rated MLS team on FIFA 12? The New York Red Bulls at 71. Luckily for New York, FIFA doesn't take team chemistry into account.
FIFA 12 breaks each team down into three categories; Attack, Midfield, and Defense. They have Sporting Kansas City ranked 67 in attack, 65 in the midfield, and 64 on defense.
And now on to the individual player ratings of the Starting XI (the starters based off of FIFA 12's calculations, of course). You can check out all of the MLS team, and player ratings here.
Jimmy Nielsen- 69
Chance Myers- 63
Aurelien Collin- 70
Matt Besler- 65
Seth Sinovic- 62
Graham Zusi- 64
Roger Espinoza- 65
Jeferson- 71
Kei Kamara- 66
CJ Sapong- 65
Omar Bravo- 71
A few things that caught my attention;
1. I love Roger Espinoza just as much as the next guy, but how can FIFA rate Roger better than Graham Zusi, Chance Myers, Seth Sinovic, and the same as Matt Besler?
2. Jeferson shares the highest rating of any Sporting player with Omar Bravo at 71. Goes to show you just how underwhelming Jeferson has been in real life thus far.
3. Definitely feel like Kei Kamara is underrated. He's probably our most consistent scoring threat. I think he should be somewhere close to Bravo rating wise.
4. Zusi has to have a higher rating, doesn't he?
5. The more I look at the ratings, the more I'm pretty sure that FIFA just randomly gives a rating to MLS players.
And according to Andy Stewart, Sporting Kansas City fan extraordinaire, it looks like FIFA 12 creators got a little lazy when it came to Sporting Kansas City. Via Stewart's @StewbaccaKC twitter;
"The (SportingKC) badge and shirts are right, but the commentators still call them the Kansas City Wizards.
Uh, what? You're telling me that FIFA 12 creators were too lazy, or just didn't care enough to have Martin Tyler go into the audio studio, and have him record the words "Sporting Kansas City" so that it would be right in the game?
Apparently not, which really bugs me, because I've always been a stickler for the small details, even though I don't think you can consider this a small detail.
I'm not sure because I haven't had a chance to play the game, but I imagine there will be no LIVESTRONG Sporting Park as well. I guess that means they'll have Sporting playing in the beautiful Aloha Park for yet another season.
Oh well, I suppose I should be happy that EA actually took the time to get the jerseys, and the logo right for Sporting. Baby steps, I guess. It's just a little irritating to me that FIFA still doesn't respect the MLS as a legitimate league enough to get more of the details right.
Alas, I digress.
If anyone has the ratings for the rest of the Sporting Kansas City players, feel free to post them in the comments section. I won't be able to pick up the game until this weekend.
Also, feel free to leave any thoughts, reviews of FIFA 12 as well.
