Sporting KC to Open Season at Philadelphia

Sporting Kansas City will travel to Philadelphia in the opening match of the season on March 2nd

PPL Park was a bittersweet place for Sporting KC last season.

Who can forget the 4-0 drubbing they took in mid-July that was widely regarded as the worst match of the season. But then again, who can forget the US Open Cup semi-final where Sporting KC clinched a berth in the final with a 2-0 win over the Union.

Sporting KC will make the trek to PPL Park on March 2nd for the official season opener for both teams, the MLS announced today.

Sporting KC opened up their 2012 campaign on the road as well, winning in the final minutes off a CJ Sapong header, which started their seven game opening win streak.

There is a match scheduled on March 9th between Sporting KC and Toronto FC but since both clubs played on the road in Week 1, the site of the match is still to be determined. It looks like the match will be in Toronto, but may be played at a different site than BMO Field.

Sporting KC's first scheduled home match will come against none other than the Chicago Fire at LiveSTRONG Sporting Park on March 16th.
