Sporting Kansas City's second string goalkeeper Eric Kronberg will be out of action for the next 4-6 weeks, the club announced on Thursday. This adds on to Kronberg's already lengthy offseason injury spell - he underwent successful sports hernia surgery in November.
The 6'5 shot-stopper is the longest serving player on Sporting KC's roster and has played for the club under 3 different logos in 3 different stadiums. However the California native has only gone on to make 5 appearances for Sporting Kansas City in 6 years.
With the season opener less than ten days away the back up goalkeeper position behind Jimmy Nielsen is up for grabs with homegrown player Jon Kempin the most likely to fill in during Kronberg's absence. There have however been goalkeepers brought in during the preseason(Spangler and Angevine) it will be interesting to see if one will get signed.
