Sporting KC Extends CJ Sapong's Stay

It was announced earlier today that Sporting KC striker and Virginia native CJ Sapong had signed a new deal with Sporting Kansas City. The 23 year old netted 6 times for Sporting KC last season in league play and is heading into the next couple of games as the preferred center forward with Teal Bunbury away on national team duty with the US U23 squad.

I would assume that the deal is only worth 2-3 years (maybe less) because the striker has previously stated he has ambitions to play in Europe and would not want to be locked down to a club for too long and possibly spurn other teams away from his talents.

This is the 5th re-signing of the off-season for Sporting KC. Jimmy Nielsen and Graham Zusi being the most notable contract extensions among others. With the re-signing of Sapong Sporting KC again shows their focus and intent on keeping their young players around at the club. In fact when Robb Heineman posted this on twitter there were many names tossed out there just because we have so many young guys on this squad. Names like Besler, Myers, and Saad were all being thrown up in the air.

It's good to know that it's CJ though, he will play an integral part in this teams journey for silverware.
