Sporting KC striker Kei Kamara has been called up by the Sierra Leone FA ahead of two friendly games against Iraq and Jordan. Kei will potentially join 34 other Sierra Leoneans in the friendlies and for the first time in a long time there will be more home-based players(20) than players based abroad(15) for the Leone Stars.
Kei has turned down call-ups from his native country in the past due to conflicting schedules with his club team. This time is different however seeing as Sporting does not play for the first half of June while Sierra Leone has those two friendlies I mentioned above in late May and three important 2014 World Cup Qualifying games on the 2nd, 9th, and 15th. I fully expect Kamara to participate.
Graham Zusi and Kamara are the only two players from Sporting KC that have been called up for a vast amount of worldwide international soccer games scheduled in the beginning of June. Watch for Soony Saad, Lawrence Olum, Roger Espinoza, and even Peterson Joseph to possibly get called up for their respective countries as well.
