Six Sporting Kansas City players are among the nominees for the 2012 MLS All-Star team, the MLS announced today.
Every team in the MLS has six nominees for the All-Star game, with the voting for the final team beginning tomorrow.
The nominees for Sporting are as follows:
Jimmy Nielsen (Keeper)
Aurélien Collin (Defender)
Roger Espinoza (Midfielder)
Graham Zusi (Midfielder)
Kei Kamara (Forward)
CJ Sapong (Forward)
The final team will be released at the end of June. Voting starts tomorrow at 11 am central time, and will last until the end of June. Fans can either vote online, or through text message.
Personally I'm surprised not to see Matt Besler on here, and I'm surprised that Sporting only had one defensive nominee after the brilliant defensive start that Sporting had.
I'm also a little bit surprised to see Roger Espinoza on here. He's good, but he's not the first name I would think of when thinking of All Stars.
I expect to see Sapong and Collin make the team, maybe Kamara also even though he's been a bit off this year.
The 2012 All-Star game will be held in Philadelphia on July 25th at 7:30 pm central time. They will face off against the Champions of Europe Chelsea F.C, whom they beat 1-0 in 2006.
