2013 MLS Mock Draft: Sporting Kansas City selects Dillon Powers

Sporting Kansas City takes Notre Dame midfielder Dillon Powers in the 2013 SB Nation MLS SuperDraft Mock Draft.

I took the responsibility of picking for The Daily Wiz for SB Nation's 2013 Mock Draft and I did what I fully expect Sporting Kansas City to do on Thursday.

Many of the holes that Sporting KC had were filled by the flurry of moves in December that led to the signings of Josh Gardner, Benny Feilhaber, Claudio Bieler, Ike Opara and Yann Songo'o. Because of these moves, I fully expect Sporting KC to use their only pick to take the best player left on the board. However, my thoughts were that Sporting KC should also lean towards beefing up their midfield a bit, so The Daily Wiz selected Notre Dame midfielder Dillon Powers.

Powers has some goal scoring ability as shown in the video below, but his true strength lies in his passing. He had 22 assists at Notre Dame to go along with 10 goals. He was also an apparent leader on the squad, earning a captaincy in his junior and senior seasons.

It is entirely possible both Zusi and Feilhaber will be called up for national team duty this summer, so some more depth at midfield is a must. Powers suits that role extremely well.

Don't forget to check back to The Daily Wiz for all MLS Superdraft coverage this Thursday.
