Sporting KC knew the time and the place and now know their opponent for their US Open Cup title defense.

Sporting will play host to the Des Moines Menace next Tuesday in the third round of the US Open Cup. Des Moines is a USL Premier Development League (PDL) side and pulled off a big upset to get to Kansas City. The knocked off NASL side Minnesota United FC 1-0 yesterday to advance to the third round.

Some Kansas City soccer fans may already be familiar with the Des Moines Menace because of the PDL. The Menace play in the same league and division as local side the Kansas City Brass.

The third round will feature the 32 teams left in the US Open Cup and will be a single-elimination bracket format for the rest of the tournament. The match between Sporting Kansas City and the Des Moines Menace will take place at Sporting Park next Tuesday at 7:30 pm.

In other US Open Cup news, Sporting KC reserves Dom Dywer and Jon Kempin played for Orlando City last night as part of the partnership between the two clubs. This means that both of the aforementioned players are cap-tied to Orlando City and will be unavailable to play for Sporting Kansas City for the rest of the tournament.
