Sporting KC midfielder Mikey Lopez will be representing the United States national team later this month in the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup, adding to the already large number of Sporting KC players playing for national teams this summer.
The World Cup will take place in Turkey and will run from June 21st through July 13th, provided the US makes it that far.
The US received a very hard draw as they were grouped with Spain, France and Ghana in the so called "group of death." They will play Spain on June 21st France on the 24th and Ghana on the 27th. The top two teams from each group plus the top four third place teams will advance to the round of 16, so it's not inconceivable that the US could move on.
Lopez is the first ever Sporting KC player to represent the US at the U-20 World Cup while playing for Sporting KC and is one of five midfielders called up for the United States.
