Sporting Kansas City has traded midfielder Michael Thomas to Toronto FC in exchange for a 2015 second round MLS Superdraft pick.
Thomas was signed by Sporting Kansas City in 2012 after playing for two years in Sweden. He was a local product, growing up in Olathe, Kansas and attending Saint Thomas Aquinas high school where he was part of a state championship team all four years.
Thomas played in seven MLS matches and had two starts in the US Open Cup past year. This year he was pretty much blocked at the midfield position so Toronto should offer better opportunities to him.
This is the second trade between Sporting KC and Toronto this year after Bobby Convey was sent there in exchange for a 2014 third round draft pick.
It looks like Sporting may be trying to open up a couple of roster spots with the transfer window opening up in about a week. They now have two more open after Yann Songo'o was released and after this trade with Michael Thomas.
