Sporting Kansas City signs Federico Bessone

Former Barcelona youth product Federico Bessone will provide some good left back depth for Sporting KC.

Daily Mail

In what will  be the last move until the offseason, Sporting Kansas City has signed left back Federico Bessone.

Bessone is a 29 year old veteran who has played in the FC Barcelona youth system and has made his way to the English Premier league with a stint at Swansea in 2011. He has also played for Swindon Town FC, Leeds United, Charlton Athletic and Oldham Athletic.

The Argentine defender will provide some good depth at the left back position, where Sporting KC is surprisingly shallow. Outside of Gardner, the other outside backs, Ellis, Myers, Jerome and Miller, are all right backs.

Bessone hasn't played in a competitive match since the end of the English season when he released by Oldham without playing a single match for the club.

With the MLS rosters freezing today, Sporting KC will not be able to make any more moves for the remainder of the season and Bessone's signing brings them up to 30 roster spots, the league maximum.

I would expect Bessone to get some playing time in the upcoming Champions League matches but other than that it looks like he will be there for depth at left back. He was unassigned to a club after a release, which means that Sporting doesn't have to pay a transfer fee. It looks to be a good move for Sporting.
