Sporting Park will play host to its first friendly since 2012 as Sporting KC plays Manchester City on July 23rd.

After being heavily rumored in the offseason, it has finally come to light that Sporting Kansas City will be playing Manchester City at Sporting Park.

The July 23rd matchup will be right after the 2014 World Cup concludes, which means that there is a good chance that some of the star Manchester City players, such as Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure and Edin Dzeko might actually play in this match. However, this will only be the first stop for Manchester City in the United States as they move on to play A.C Milan, Liverpool and Olympiacos in the International Champions Cup.

For Sporting KC, this friendly comes sandwiched in between two huge matches. A week before, Sporting KC hosts the Los Angeles Galaxy in an always tough match. Then, Sporting KC travels to Toronto three days later for a match with the revitalized Reds. Still, there is enough time in between both matches where the players aren't going to get worn out from an extra match and we might see some of the starters play in this match.

Sporting Kansas City is undefeated against EPL teams, beating Manchester United in 2010, drawing Newcastle in 2011 and drawing Stoke City in 2012.
