FC Kansas City tied Sky Blue FC 1-1 Saturday night in their home opener. Amy Rodriguez scored the first goal of the new season and put the Blues up in the 42nd minute. Rookie Kassey Kallman got the assist when she slid a pass across the box for "A-Rod" to finish.

All of FC Kansas City's hard work was undone early in the second half when a defensive miscue allowed Sky Blue FC's Katy Freels to equalize in the 48th minute.

"I was happy with the performance but not happy with the result after being up 1-0," Blues head coach Vlatko Andonovski said after the match. "We gave up a goal on the only shot that was taken in the second half but overall not bad. We created a lot of opportunities but just didn't put the ball away."

The Blues dominated the stats for the match, outshooting Sky Blue FC 14-5 and 9-2 in shots on goal but could not put the game winner past Sky Blue's keeper Jillian Loyden.

FC Kansas City's first round draft pick Kassey Kallman started on the back line and Andonovski was happy with her debut. "Kassey was good for us defensively, some of here distributions were off a bit but defensively she was very good and she even assisted on the goal."
