In an announcement that featured some surprises but none in Kansas City, Sporting Kansas City forward Graham Zusi and defender Matt Besler have been named to the United States Men's National Team preliminary roster for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Besler has made 14 appearances for the national team and is the likely starting centerback alongside Omar Gonzales of the Los Angeles Galaxy. Zusi has made 20 appearances and has appeared strong in the last few World Cup qualifiers, possibly earning him a starting spot.

Here is the full list of all 30 players called in to camp.

GOALKEEPERS (3) : Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Tim Howard (Everton), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake)

DEFENDERS (11) : DaMarcus Beasley (Puebla), Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City), John Brooks (Hertha Berlin), Geoff Cameron (Stoke City), Timmy Chandler (Nürnberg), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders FC), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy), Clarence Goodson (San Jose Earthquakes), Fabian Johnson (Hoffenheim), Michael Parkhurst (Columbus Crew), DeAndre Yedlin (Seattle Sounders FC)

MIDFIELDERS (10) : Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Alejandro Bedoya (Nantes), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC), Joe Corona (Club Tijuana), Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo), Mix Diskerud (Rosenborg), Maurice Edu (Philadelphia Union), Julian Green (Bayern Munich), Jermaine Jones (Besiktas), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City)

FORWARDS (6) : Jozy Altidore (Sunderland), Terrence Boyd (Rapid Vienna), Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders FC), Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy), Aron Johannsson (AZ Alkmaar), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes)

Some surprises include the 18-year-old Julian Green, who made his USMNT debut earlier this year in a friendly. Eddie Johnson, a mainstay of the national team for the past couple of years, was left off the list and Chris Wondolowski earned a spot after his scoring spectaculars in the Gold Cup and other recent friendlies.

The roster will be trimmed to 23 players before the team heads to Brazil, where they will play their first match against Ghana on June 16th. Zusi and Besler are expected to be available for the May 14th match for Sporting Kansas City against the Philadelphia Union before reporting to camp on Thursday.
