Last-minute heroics, a brilliant free kick and a being tenacious force in the midfield earned Benny Feilhaber the July MLS Player of the Month award.
Feilhaber finished with 53.1% of the vote with Bradley Wright-Phillips finishing a distant second with 14.6%. Feilhaber had two goals and an assist during the month of July, with one of the goals coming in stoppage time.
He had an assist on a corner kick earlier that game, which CJ Sapong headed into the net against Columbus. The second goal for Feilhaber came that weekend when he curled in a beautiful free kick to put Sporting KC up early on the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Feilhaber is the third Sporting Kansas City player in a row to win the Player of the Month award. Dom Dwyer won in May for his scoring run and Eric Kronberg won in June. When reached for comment, this was Feilhaber's only response to winning the award.
