Saad Abdul-Salaam has been selected by Sporting KC with the club's 2nd of three 1st round picks.
After choosing to sit out his freshman year to focus on academia, Abdul-Salaam had 3 successful seasons as right-back for the University of Akron. This passed season, he started 21 games for Akron, assisting in 6 goals and scoring 2 himself.
With the return of Igor Juliao still in question, Abdul-Salaam will provide the depth that Vermes loves on the back line. He is 6'4" and a physical player that provides an aerial threat. He likes to get forward as Vermes wants from his outside backs so Abdul-Salaam should fit right in. It doesn't appear that any of the team's picks in this draft will have much of an immediate impact, but some time to develop behind Chance Myers, and under Peter Vermes, will get him Sporting Fit soon.
Sporting KC have two more picks in the draft.. so stick around!
