Amadou Dia was Sporting KC's third pick in the MLS Superdraft, coming in at number 20.
Dia is a versatile player out of Clemson University. He is listed on Clemson's website as a midfielder/forward, but commonly referred to as a defender. As a junior, he started all 21 matches for the Tigers and logged one assist on the season.
Sporting KC struggled with defensive injuries this season, and with the loss of veteran Aurelien Collin it will be important to start training young players to fill an eventual void. However, Dia's versatility also gives the team options to train him for other positions. Sporting KC has a history of putting new guys into new spots - think of Chance Myers, who was drafted as a MF/Forward and now plays defense.
There's one pick left for Sporting KC in the SuperDraft, so stay tuned for the latest updates.
