Sporting Kansas City became the first team to officially sign a free agent on Monday when they added veteran winger Justin Mapp. Mapp brings a creative presence on the wings and, more importantly, gives Sporting KC a good option off the bench when they need attacking players.
Sporting needed a winger. Krisztian Nemeth is more than likely going to miss parts of the season because of the 2016 Euro, Graham Zusi could continue to falter and of course there's the possibility of injuries. Now, Sporting KC has a forward team of Nemeth, Zusi, Dom Dwyer, Mapp, Anor, Hallisey, and Peterson. That's a decent rotation.
With the move, Sporting KC crossed another priority off the list, the fourth of the offseason.
1) Re-sign Tim Melia Achieved 11/25. Sporting KC pick up Tim Melia's 2016 option.
2) Sign a Centerback Achieved 12/09. Sporting KC sign Lawrence Olum.
3) Add forward depth Achieved 12/13. Sporting KC sign Justin Mapp
4) Restructure Graham Zusi's contract...
5) ...and give that money to Benny Feilhaber and Krisztian Nemeth
6) Make a defensive midfield decision
7) Release Marcel de Jong, Mikey Lopez and Jacob Peterson
8) Sign a backup keeper Achieved 12/11. Sporting KC select Alec Kann in first stage of the re-entry draft.
9) Make a decision at left back
10) Depth at attacking midfielder
They only have one more addition to make and that's if they can find a suitable backup at attacking midfielder. There's also the possibility that No. 6 will have to be updated since Soni Mustivar is still un-signed and represents a hole in Sporting KC's 2016 lineup.
There are three more open spots on the 2016 roster and Vermes is still looking to make additions.
Vermes said he's still looking to add a player on each line.

With the addition of Mapp, the focus will likely to move to a defender and midfielder. #SportingKC

There are three players out of contract that Sporting KC are working to get signed.
Asked Vermes for update on Mustivar, Nagamura and Lopez contract negotiations. "Working," he said.

Signing all three of those midfielders would max out Sporting KC's roster, which would either force someone to be released or for them to not all be signed. Mikey Lopez, however, could be a candidate to be loaned to Swope Park Rangers.
Here is the roster as it stands going into 2016. Who do you think will fill the last three spots?
