In what seems to be a pattern – first Lauren Holiday, then Leigh Ann Brown (nee Robinson) – FC Kansas City defender Amy LePeilbet announced her retirement today. LePeilbet racked up a number of accomplishments while playing at FC Kansas City, including two NWSL championships, recognition on the 2015 NWSL Best XI and FC Kansas City’s MVP honor this year.

LePeilbet also logged 84 caps with the USWNT, and was a part of the second place team at the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2012 Olympic Championship team. Throughout her career, she suffered two injuries to her ACL, but continued to play.

"The last two seasons playing for FC Kansas City was such a pleasure," LePeilbet wrote in a statement released to media. "Winning back-to-back championships alongside wonderful teammates, coaches, and staff made my experience even better and has left me feeling good about stepping away."

LePeilbet certainly leaves big shoes to fill. After the retirement of Brown (Robinson) and the departure of Becca Moros, the only remaining starting defender from FC Kansas City’s 2015 lineup is Becky Sauerbrunn. FC Kansas City should have an active remainder of the offseason as they try to fill the gaps.
