For the second straight season, Mikey Lopez will be donning green instead of Sporting Blue as he has been loaned to OKC Energy FC.
Lopez made five appearances for OKC Energy FC in 2014 after initially starting the season off with Orlando City. He made eight appearances for Sporting KC in 2014 after the season ended for OKC Energy. Lopez scored one goal while in Oklahoma City. They finished tenth in their inaugural season, missing the USL playoffs.
This is the first of four required loanees that Sporting KC will send down south to play for their USL partner club. Jon Kempin, who many expected to go to OKC Energy, was instead sent to the San Antonio Scorpions of the NASL. Some possible candidates to fulfill the USL loanee requirement instead of Kempin could include striker James Rogers, defender Saad Abdul-Salaam, midfielder Connor Hallisey and defender Amadou Dia once Chance Myers returns to action.
OKC Energy will begin their 2015 season against the Tulsa Roughnecks on March 28 at 7 p.m.
