Sporting Kansas City has sent another player to the San Antonio Scorpions as the club announced Wednesday that Saad Abdul-Salaam will join the NASL club.
Abdul-Salaam will join keeper Jon Kempin, who was loaned to the Scorpions last month.
The defender was picked 12th overall in the 2015 MLS Superdraft and has not played any minutes for the senior club in the 2015 season. He did make several appearances in the preseason but is far down the depth chart regarding defenders.
The curious part to this loan is that Sporting Kansas City is still obligated to send four players to USL Pro club Oklahoma City Energy FC and, so far, they have only sent one in midfielder Mikey Lopez. Kempin's loan to San Antonio was unexpected but explained as a way to get the prospective keeper out of his comfort zone but this one was out of the blue.
The Scorpions will begin their 2015 season on April 4 against the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
