In the 76th minute of Saturday's match, Sporting KC's Graham Zusi went up to clear a ball that was crossed in and as he flicked it out his head collided with DC United's Bobby Boswell. Zusi went down immediately with blood flowing form his scalp.
After treatment on the field Zusi went off for a couple minutes while they bandaged and wrapped his head and got him a clean jersey before he returned to the game. In the 89th minute Zusi sat down during a stoppage and Sporting Kansas City quickly subbed for him.
After practice Monday, Sporting KC manager Peter Vermes was asked about Zusi's status. "Not sure what his situation will be. It's day-to-day at the moment, it's going to depend on how he turns around. Obviously we won't risk him in any way."
"He was fine when he first came out but after running around a little bit he just didn't feel right so it was the best thing that he sat down," Vermes continued. "He felt a little bit blurry."
When asked if they knew what it was, Vermes was not sure if it was a minor concussion, he had not received the official diagnosis yet. "I don't know what the doctors have come back with yet but he is not ready to come back on the field, right now he is day-to-day."
The club later confirmed that Zusi does have a concussion and is day-to-day.
