Sporting Kansas City defender Erik Palmer-Brown has been named to the U-20 United States men's national team for the 2015 U-20 World Cup, US Soccer announced Thursday.

"I could not be more excited to be named to the roster for the U-20 World Cup," Palmer- Brown said in a Sporting KC press release. "We have an exciting group of players and I cannot wait to get to New Zealand to compete against the best U-20 players in the world."

Palmer-Brown was invited to the U-20 team camp in January but was not part of the qualifying team due to his injury from October. He has made five appearances for the U-20 team and 16 appearances for any United States youth team overall.

The United States will open their World Cup campaign in Group A against Myanmar on May 30. They continue with a match against the hosts of the tournament, New Zealand, on June 2 before closing out group play on June 5 against Ukraine.

Depending on how well the United States does, Sporting KC could be without Palmer-Brown through as late as June 20.
