So this happened Saturday night as the Colorado Rapids prepared to take a set piece...
The sprinklers start just as the Rapids prepare
It was not a planned event or an attempt by Sporting Kansas City to disrupt play. No, it was a case of things being a little too automated.
It seems the grounds crew can turn on the sprinklers remotely and an errant "butt dial" started the sprinklers. A mad scramble to figure out what happened and get them turned off resulted in wet minute or so but no harm done. Just a simple little miss-app...
A new form of home field advantage could result, one of the assistant coaches on the bench with a smart phone waiting to hit the sprinkle app in case of an opponent breakaway. Or with Sporting Innovations help it could be a fan vote on the fans app.
