Many sources are reporting that Sporting Kansas City are finalizing a trade that would bring in Amobi Okugo in exchange for Servando Carassco and other considerations.
KC lost center-back Ike Opara early in the season and while Kevin Ellis has filled in admirably, defensive reinforcements are needed. Okugo, only 24 years old, started the first 9 games for Orlando City before falling out of the starting lineup. Since then he has only seen a handful of minutes coming off the bench.
Okugo made a name for himself in Philadelphia where he played both center-back and defensive midfielder. Orlando City brought him in to be a large part of their starting lineup and he is due $300,000 this year. Goal.com reports that Orlando City will pay $200,000 in salary cap considerations however.
Sporting KC brought in Servando Carrasco to compete for the job of holding midfield with Soni Mustivar. Carrasco, with more MLS experience started several games but did not impress. He picked up a one game suspension for a serious foul on Brad Davis and then Soni Mustivar never relinquished the starting job. Carrasco is due just $80,750 in 2015.
Amobi Okugo is likely to work himself into the starting center-back role eventually, as well as provide depth in the midfield.
