It is no secret that Sporting Kansas City has wanted to field a second team that will play in the USL. The only question is when it would happen. Well also where they will play and what the name would be of course.
It appears that Sporting KC will field a team next season according to a report from Louisville. The Courier-Journal says that the Sporting USL team would play in the Western conference and the St Louis team would move to the west also.
Both the USL and Sporting KC declined to comment at this time.
Sporting KC building a team already?
A few days ago, a familiar player showed up at Sporting KC practice. Danny Barrow was reported to be signing with Sporting KC at one point but manager Peter Vermes shot that down pretty hard a couple days later.
It is pretty common for players to come in and out of training each summer. Trialists from all over the world, college players trying to impress before the next year's draft and SKC Academy players coming back to train to fulfill the homegrown requirement.
When asked about Barrow being back in camp, assistant coach Kerry Zavagnin had this to say.
"Danny was a player that was originally brought in in consideration for our Sporting USL team in case that comes to fruition. He was on trial with us for a couple weeks and we saw some very good abilities in him and characteristics that we think could work well within our club."
"There are three or four guys here right now that have been with us for an extensive period of time that we are looking to bring in for a potential USL team but depending on what their progression is and how fast they work themselves into form, they could potentially join the team in 2016 with the senior team."
