Continuing their impressive form since the World Cup, FC Kansas City rolled through the Boston Breakers 3-0 for their third win in a row.
Lauren Holiday had a goal while Amy Rodriguez put in a brace for her third and fourth goals of the year.
The Blues controlled most of the first half from an attacking stand point and nearly put a couple of goals in during the early minutes. Rodriguez put in a ball in the second minute but it was waved offside. The Blues put another couple of shots to challenge Breakers' keeper Alyssa Naeher but they were denied.
In the 29th minute, FC Kansas City finally took the lead. Leigh Ann Robinson sent a ball across the box where Rodriguez was there to smash the ball in from ten yards out for her third goal of the year. The Blues took this lead into halftime.
The second half started off fast and furious for the Blues as they quickly doubled and then tripled their lead. In the 50th minute, Holiday got the ball on the right side and fired a shot that went through several defenders and into the net. Only two minutes later, Rodriguez got an assist from Holiday as she put in her second of the night and fourth of the year.
From then on, FC Kansas City controlled the match and their victory was never in doubt. In the final 40 minutes, they kept the pressure on, almost getting a couple more goals but they were either denied by the post or Naeher. When the final whistle sounded, they had earned a 3-0 win and put themselves further into contention for a playoff spot.
Their final home match is Thursday when they take on the Washington Spirit, before closing the season at Sky Blue FC on September 6.
