With FC Kansas City's win on Saturday and other results around the NWSL, the defending champion Blues qualified for the playoffs for the third straight year. The Chicago Red Stars earned their first playoff appearance over the weekend as well. The Seattle Reign had already secured a playoff spot and will finish on top of the table.

The remaining playoff spot is between Portland Thorns and the Washington Spirit. The Thorns will have to win out the remaining two games and the Spirit not earn a point to go to tie breakers.

If the Thorns win out and FC Kansas City does not earn another point, the teams would be tied but the Blues would advance on head-to-head record. If Portland does not make the playoffs, FC Kansas City will be the only team to have made it all three years.

The Blues have two remaining regular season games. Thursday they host playoff contender Washington and then go on the road September 2nd at Sky Blue FC.

Semifinal matches are scheduled for September 13th with times and locations to be determined although Seattle should host one round if the league does not move it to a neutral site.
