Sporting Kansas City sign Nuno Andre Coelho as a new defender

Sporting Kansas City has a new centerback as they announced the signing of Portguese international Nuno Andre Coelho.

Coelho will not occupy a designated player spot and brings with him experience of playing in Portugal, Belgium and Spain.

The 30-year-old is 6'4" and most recently played for Balıkesirspor in Turkey. He played before at SC Braga from 2011 to 2014 and even played at Sporting KC's namesake at Sporting Club de Portugal in 2010. He did not get a lot of playing time at Sporting CP and his time at Braga was marred by injuries. He only made 42 appearances in three seasons.

He also has a bit of international experience. He was called up to the Portugese squad in 2010 but never made any appearances.

This signing brings Sporting KC's roster up to 30 total players, two more than the maximum limit of 28 which means that at least two players will have to be cut or loaned before the season begins. Coelho has already joined Sporting KC in Tuscon for preseason.
