Following the transfer of Sporting Kansas City forward Krisztian Nemeth to Al-Gharafa SC, Sporting Kansas City is in line to take in a hefty sum from the transfer fee.
Source close to Krisztian Nemeth deal says KC getting a bit under $3 million for the transfer fee (plus a sell-on clause).
— Grant Wahl (@GrantWahl) January 30, 2016
Due to Major League Soccer rules, Sporting KC will get 2/3 of the transfer fee. Wahl's tweet is unclear whether the under $3 million sum is what Sporting KC will receive or if it will be 2/3 of that sum but regardless Sporting KC will receive a nice payday for the Nemeth transfer.
Also in the transfer is a sell-on clause, which means that Sporting KC would get a percentage of a sale if Al-Gharafa SC sells Nemeth. With Nemeth likely to be on the Hungarian squad for the 2016 Euros, there's a decent chance he gets exposure and gets sold to a bigger club.
The sale leaves Sporting KC with 30 players on the roster, which they must trim to 28 before the first match. The forward situation is now in flux since Justin Mapp and Brad Davis would be the presumed heirs to Nemeth's starting spot and will likely battle for it in preseason. There's also the possibility that Sporting add another forward before the start of the season.
