Sporting KC Defeats FC Tuscon 4-0 to Open Preseason

The first scrimmage of the year for Sporting Kansas City gave Peter Vermes a lot of positives to take away from the 4-0 win over FC Tuscon. Brad Davis tallied a goal and an assist. Sophmore Connor Hallisey impressed with a brace and Dom Dwyer got on the board with a goal as well.

The preseason is off and running after Sporting KC cruised to a 4-0 win over FC Tuscon today. Brad Davis proved to fit right into Peter Vermes' squad with the first goal of the preseason. Connor Hallisey got himself a brace and Dom Dwyer also scored in the 60 minute scrimmage.

You obviously can't look too much into a preseason game, but the boys did exactly what they needed to do and there were a lot of positives to take away.

It looks like Dom is up to his old pesky tricks:

It is also really nice to see that Brad Davis is quickly meshing with the offense. Right after scoring, he returned the favor and assisted Dwyer to double the lead:

If those two can develop a good connection, MLS and CONCACAF should be very, very afraid.

Benny got right back his old ways:

Connor showed promise in his first year and maybe this is an indication he put in some work this off season and is ready to step it up in his sophomore season.

Another newcomer also got involved in the play:

Ike Opara and Roger Espinoza were also able to get back on the field with their team. And that really gives me all the feelings inside. Both put in a 30 minute shift.

Vermes also got a look at a bunch of young guys including some Swope Park Rangers. From the team's website:

Sporting KC's first-half lineup (L-R):  Tim Melia; Chance Myers, Nuno Andre Coelho, Ike Opara, Amadou Dia Lawrence Olum, Roger Espinoza, Jordi Quintilla, Brad Davis, Dom Dwyer, Graham Zusi.

Sporting KC's second-half lineup (L-R):  Alec Kann; Seth Sinovic, Tommy Meyer*, Kevin Ellis, Saad Abdul-Salaam, Soni Mustivar, Paulo Nagamura, Benny Feilhaber, Connor Hallisey, Jacob Peterson (Faik Hajderovic**), Justin Mapp

* Swope Park Rangers player
** Trialist

This is all exactly the kind of stuff you would want to see in the first scrimmage of the preseason. And I must say, it is good have some SKC soccer to talk about!

The next scrimmage will take place on Sunday against South Korean side Seongnam FC.
