Sporting KC announces roster moves, options for 2017

SKC exercised options on five players but declined on some fan favorites

Sporting Kansas City announced they had exercised contract options and other moves in preparation for the 2017 season. Sporting KC exercised options on: Saad Abdul-Salaam, Benji Joya, Jimmy Medranda, Lawrence Olum and Seth Sinovic.

At the moment, the following players are out of contract: Nuno Andre Coelho, Chance Myers, Paulo Nagamura and Jacob Peterson. Sporting KC has announced they are extending offers to both Ellis and Kann and negotiations are in process.

Sporting KC veterans Myers, Nagamura and Peterson are eligible for MLS free agency. Players will become free agents after the MLS Expansion Draft on Dec. 13.

The club is not exercising options on Ever Alvarado, Emmanuel Appiah, Connor Hallisey, Jon Kempin and Justin Mapp. Kempin, Sporting Kansas City’s first homegrown player is eligible to participate in Major League Soccer’s Re-Entry Draft, with Stage One set for Dec. 16 and Stage Two on Dec. 22. As a free agent, Mapp may enter the Re-Entry Draft or become a free agent after the MLS Expansion Draft.

Bernardo Anor was on the Sporting KC 2016 roster but on loan to Minnesota United with an agreement for Minnesota to assume his salary at the end of the season.
