Swope Park Rangers Add Two: Parker Maher and James Musa

The offseason news just keeps coming for Sporting Kansas City's USL team, the Swope Park Rangers. Today they announced the signing of two new players who appear to fit holes that we were discussing needed filling. The players joining the club are Parker Maher and James Musa, both who played for St Louis FC over the last two seasons in the USL.

Maher and Musa both have over 50 appearances for St. Louis FC. Maher has 50 appearances over the last two seasons, good for third all-time on the club. Maher is from Joplin, MO and went to college at Missouri State University (hey, me too).

Musa has 51 appearances over that same two year time frame leaving him second all-time with the club. He is from the United Kingdom and will be able to join SPR pending receipt of his P-1 Visa. He actually spent time on the English club Fulham FC before ending up in the states.

Both players are listed as midfielders but appear to have the ability to play along the backline. As I indicated previously, this roster is loaded with midfielders but shockingly has almost no defenders under contract for 2017. Maher has spent time at left back and other than Tyler Pasher (who is really a left winger) there isn't a left back on the roster. Musa is listed as a central midfielder but SPR states he can play along the backline. One has to wonder if he can play defensive midfielder as the team is in need of one until Ualefi returns from his torn ACL, which just occurred during the USL Cup Playoffs.

Both players will be welcome additions as the club continues to fill out their roster for 2017. Both players are a bit older for a USL roster. Age is relative, as they aren't teenagers but are approaching an age when it'll be tougher and tougher to earn a spot on the MLS team. We'll leave you with their vitals courtesy of SportingKC.com.
