Has Peter Vermes found his man?

Sporting KC is being linked to 25 year old Gerso Fernandes who is currently playing for Belenenses (alongside Uri Rosell who is there on loan) in Portugal’s Primeira Liga.

Unfortunately we only have a series of tweets to work with at the moment. But the Portuguese journalist gave us a few more tidbits about the potential signing.

That price of 1.5 million Euros would be just under $1.6 million.

This definitely has the feel of a very Peter Vermes move. He has been all about Portugal the last few seasons so there is no surprise there. Moreover, we haven’t heard of him. If this was a player everyone was familiar with, Vermes would have to overpay to get him in Sporting Blue. He simply will not do that.

It is a very hefty price tag by Kansas City’s normal standards, but the club still has plenty of Garber Bucks Targeted Allocation Money lying around.

You can find various highlight reels around the web, but I’ve got a couple of the most recent ones below.

First of all:

I think we could probably use him....

Gerso is a 74 in FIFA 17 down from a 75 last year. It makes no sense because his actual in-game stats were given a boost, but FIFA doesn’t always makes sense. That PACE though!

Just keep in mind even if the rumor is true, Sporting KC is only at the “top of the list” to sign the player. This is the silly season, so nobody get too excited about anything.

We reached out to Sporting KC for a comment on Gerso, and just as expected... they had none. Official response from the club:

“The technical staff is actively looking for players to improve the club heading into 2017, but we do not have any comment on any particular players at this time.”
