Sporting Kansas City finished 2-2 in their first match of the Desert Diamond Cup. Sporting KC came from behind to draw the Columbus Crew Wednesday at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Arizona.

Both teams went scoreless in the first half  before former Sporting KC forward Kei Kamara scored a pair of goals for the Crew. Sporting responded with goals from Soni Mustivar and then draft pick Faik Hajderovic evened it up in the 88th minute.

Being preseason, both teams tested their roster by using different groups in each half.

"Just a choppy game after some good stuff," Vermes told reporters after the match. "It was just a choppy game, too many situations where we lost possession, but it happens. When it does, you end up having to do a lot of unnecessary running, which we did. But we scored two goals, gave up two. It was a decent outing. We just have to keep getting our feet underneath us."

When asked about the second goal, Vermes replied,"It was a ball down the left side. We did well and we broke out well down the left. It all started with Daniel Salloi. We had a set piece and we put the ball down quickly and played him between the lines. He laid it back and we opened up the game and broke out down the left and had a good cross and finished on the back post. Pretty simple."

Sporting KC is back in action Saturday when they face New England in the next match of The Desert Diamond Cup and should be live streamed.
