2016 Olympic Soccer Schedule, Dates, Start Times, TV Schedule and Live Streams

With the 2016 Rio Olympics officially set to begin on Friday, now is a good time to remind everyone that soccer will actually begin on Wednesday, August 3rd, 2016. We'll cover the men and the women, but the focus for people in the United States of America will likely be on the ladies as the U-23 men's team failed to qualify for the Olympics when they fell to the U-23 Columbian National team earlier this year.

The women on the other hand are the number one team in the world FIFA rankings. They will be looking for their fourth consecutive goal medal (which would also mean they would have won five of the six possible gold medals as the women just joined the Olympics in 1996). No women's team has ever won the World Cup and then followed it up with an Olympic gold medal. The USWNT will be looking to accomplish that this year having won the World Cup in 2015.

Joining the USWNT will be FC Kansas City stars Becky Sauerbrunn and Heather O'Reilly. Sauerbrunn will likely be a starter, as she was throughout the World Cup, but O'Reilly has been demoted to an alternate role. She can be called into the main team if there is an injury or some other reason for an absence, but likely she will be left out of any potential medals the team wins.

NBC will also have a special channel available for both basketball and soccer. For our purposes, that's the NBC Olympic Soccer Channel. Check with your local provider for a specific channel number, but if you get other parts of the NBC package (NBC, NBCSN, USA Network, etc. then you likely get the special soccer channel).
