Matt Besler and his Beautiful, Amazing and Really Good Day

Becoming a father and scoring a goal, Besler had an amazing day

A Very special day for Matt Besler

Sporting Kansas City’s Matt Besler had a pretty good day Friday. Let’s start with the fact he earned another cap starting for the U.S. National team in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Any day you can suit up for your country is a good day.

But it gets better, not only did Besler play for the U.S., he also scored his first international goal and doubled the lead for the Americans which went on to easily win 6-0 and almost ensure a spot in the next round of qualifying.

But the reality is that all took a back seat to the real news for Matt. His wife Amanda gave birth to their daughter, Parker Rhea Besler early Saturday morning. She wasn’t due for another two weeks but babies often decide the timing, not the doctors.

Besler received a call from Amanda Thursday evening to let him know that it was probably “the time” but with travel options he would not have made it home in time so he waited it out on the phone.

Someday Parker will look up at a soccer ball on a shelf with her name on it. It will be a ball that scored a goal in World Cup qualifying and she will know that her daddy scored a goal for her but the real prize for Matt and Amanda will always be her.

Congratulations to the Besler family.
