They don't call if silly season for nothing. For the second time today, Sporting Kansas City have been rumored to be targeting another attacking player. First it was Yasin Oztekin and now it's Lucas Gamba out of Argentina.
There are multiple sources (in Spanish) linking "Kansas City" to Gamba. Another source has the transfer fee at around $600,000. Now be warned, I don't speak or read Spanish so I'm counting on some terrible translation software.
Gamba is also being linked to the Seattle Sounders and the Columbus Crew SC as well as "Saudi Arabia." The Crew have actually been linked to Gamba in the past. Last summer, Massive Report had him rumored as a possible transfer window target after the Kei Kamara trade.
Gamba is 29-years-old and currently plays for Club Atlético Unión (Santa Fe) in Argentina. He is listed as both a winger (by Massive Report) and a center forward. This appears to be his fourth season with the club. He has amassed 14 goals across 77 appearances, though has just three since the beginning of 2016. An aging winger/forward who's best goal scoring days are behind him, SKC already have that role filled.
This feels like an agent trying to drum up interest in his client. Sporting KC may be linked to every forward/winger on the planet until the Gerso Fernandes and Latif Blessing deals get made official by the club. Much like the Oztekin rumor from earlier today, there is probably nothing to it. Though it is fun to think about. Preseason starts in less than a month!
