Dwyer and Sapong Called Up for US Friendly - Former Sporting Player Update

The US national team named their roster on Tuesday for their first game since failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup. Two players named to the roster are former Sporting Kansas City forwards, as Dom Dwyer and CJ Sapong were both named. Dwyer finished the 2017 season with nine goals and five assists split over his time with both KC and Orlando City. Dwyer will be looking to add to his two goals in three caps earned in during this summer’s Gold Cup. Sapong makes his return to the US team for the first time since 2012 after scoring 16 goals for the Philadelphia Union in 2017.

Elsewhere teams are starting to make their offseason moves and one former Sporting player has already seen his option not picked up, Servando Carrasco, did not get his option picked up by Orlando City. Not on the field, but off it, another former KC player is out in MLS as the club’s first Designated Player, Claudio Lopez will not be returning to the Colorado Rapids as their director of soccer. Lopez was out of contract with the club, and as General Manager, Padrig Smith, looks to make over the club.
