Sporting KC to face NYCFC in 2018 home opener

MLS: New England Revolution at Sporting KC Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Major League Soccer announced the 2018 home openers for Sporting Kansas City and the other 22 MLS teams. Sporting KC will kickoff their season at home at 6:30 p.m. CT on Sunday, March 4 when they face New York City FC at Children's Mercy Park.

Sporting KC will travel the next weekend to Chicago where they will play the Fire on March 10th.

The first couple matches could present some rather cool weather for Peter Vermes’ squad with games in Kansas City and Chicago.

According to MLS, the full 34 game regular season schedule will be announced in January. Each team will play 17 home games and 17 away games. Teams will face each of their conference opponents (10 in the East, 11 in the West) twice during the season with one game at home and one game away. Western Conference teams will play one additional intra-conference game and Eastern Conference teams will play two. All teams will face each non-conference opponent once.
