The St. Louis Ambush hosts the Kansas City Comets Saturday night at Family Arena in St. Charles, MO at 7:05 pm. While it will probably be a good match, probably the more interesting game will be at 5 pm when a full St. Louis vs Kansas City match will happen.
Members of the St. Louis Steamers/Storm/Ambush will battle former players from the Kansas City Comets/Attack in an Alumni Game.
The press release describes it: “Each city has held it's share of "Alumni" or "Reunion" Games in the past, but this will be the first full-blown "Kansas City vs. St. Louis" Alumni Game, which will consist of two 25-minute halves, with a continuous clock.”
Tickets to the Ambush-Comets game will allow fans to attend both matches.
Some of the best players from both sides of the state will be in attendance with players all the way back to the original St. Louis Steamers from 1979 and Kansas City Comets from 1981.
Some of the more well-known St. Louis Alumni Players that will be participating include Ty Keough, Steve Pecher, Daryl Doran, Tim Walters, Jeff Cacciatore, Carl Rose, Sam Bick, Al Trost, Redmond Lane, Mark Moser, Steve Maurer, Mike LaPosha, Kevin Quigley, DJ Newsom and Jeff DiMaria.
Former Kansas City Comet and Wichita Wings All-Star and coach, Kim "The Rocket" Roentved, is organizing the Kansas City Alumni Team.
From the Kansas City Alumni squad, Roentved has put together a very formidable team that will include some very well-known players such as Gino Schiraldi, Alan Mayer, Jim Schwab, Jeff Davis, Gary Amlong, Shane Steadman, Kevin Handlan, Craig Stahl, Nate Houser, Zoran Savic, Warren Wescoat, Kevin Koetters, Jon Parry, Vlatko Andonovski, and Dino Delevski.
Over 70 Alumni players combined from St. Louis and Kansas City have confirmed their participation. With so many players having played for both teams and so much history between the cities in soccer and other sports, it should be a fun event for fans and the players.
In addition to the Alumni Players, over 40 Steam-Heat/Storm Twisters/Ambush Brigade Alumni Dancers will also be participating.
The press release also states they will use the traditional opening music and some ‘veteran’ referees.
“The Alumni Game will come complete with the traditional Players Introductions with the dancers, music, lights and smoke. The two songs that Kansas City and St. Louis made famous will be played at for Introductions - "Chase" from the Midnight Express Soundtrack for the KC Team and "Ain't No Stoppin Us Now" for the St. Louis Team.
To add to the nostalgia, Pro Indoor Soccer Alumni Referees Herb Silva and Marty Templin will officiate the game, which means their whistles may remain in their pockets for much of the game.”
