The Swope Park Rangers comeback fell short for the second straight game. The Real Monarchs SLC scored twice in the first half to take the lead and held on despite Swope Park’s valiant efforts.
Chandler Hoffman and James Moberg put the home side in the lead before Swope Park’s Kharlton Belmar brought the visitors within a goal in the second half.
The Monarchs hold on to second place in the Western Conference and Swope Park fell to 5th with the loss.
The match was the first start for Kevin Oliveira since last season. The talented midfielder tore his ACL in 2016 and just started to break back into games as a sub a couple games earlier.
For Belmar, it was his third goal, one in each of his starts this season.
The Rangers started all four players that are on loan from Sporting Kansas City (Cameron Iwasa, Tyler Pasher, Erik Palmer-Brown and Colton Storm). True to the nature of a B team, the lineup changes each week as they look at different players.
It was the second start for goalkeeper David Greczek and his second loss, both on the road.
After starting the season with three wins at home, the loss dropped the Rangers to 3-2-0.
Swope Park returns home and will hope to get back on track when they face Vancouver Whitecaps FC II on May 5th.
