U.S. Soccer held the Round of 16 draw this morning for the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup and streamed it lived on their Facebook page.
After far too much talking, the envelopes were finally shuffled and eventually opened.
The Houston Dynamo and FC Dallas were selected as the home teams for the June 27-28 matches. Then Sporting KC was drawn to face the Dynamo and The Rapids got the defending champions in Dallas.
Should Sporting KC get a win in Houston, they would then get to host the winner of FC Dallas/Colorado in the Quarterfinals July 7-16 at Children’s Mercy Park.
Something everyone loves to see in domestic cup competitions is the lower division teams fighting for the biggest games of their lives. But 13 of the 16 teams left are MLS sides. Only FC Cincinnati, Sacramento Republic FC, and Miami FC were able to make it this far.
After facing Minnesota United in the fourth round once again, the Round of 16 turned out to be the exact same draw as last year. The repetition in this tournament has been a talking point for many US Soccer fans as of late.
Here is the complete Round of 16 draw:
