Blue Links: Video Edition, Roaddron, Melia, Feilhaber, Zusi, Sinovic, Gerso

We catch up on all the great video from Sporting KC including the roaddron to Colorado, several behinds the scenes looks at the team and it’s players including Tim Melia, Gerso, Benny Feilhaber, Graham Zusi and more.

MLS: Sporting KC at Colorado Rapids Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

There is so much Sporting Kansas City (and KC soccer) news all the time it feels almost impossible to keep up. Let’s catch up!

#Roaddron

I was fortunate to participate in my first Roaddron this past weekend. I didn’t get the full experience since I live in Arizona (and flew to the game) but it was very fun just being a fan and sitting with the Cauldron and other SKC faithful. SKC covered the trip in their excellent “Behind the Shield” series. My daughter and I got our two seconds of fame at the 2:35 mark of the video as she is riding on my shoulders as we marched into the stadium.

Not that you need to be reminded of the outcome of that match, but we have the highlights of the trip to Colorado as well.

Matt Besler even gave a shout out to the traveling fans in his post game interview.

Amer Didic Moving on Up

As we reported earlier in the week, Amer Didic has moved to the senior team after a year plus with the Swope Park Rangers. Didic was a finalist for USL Defensive Player of the Year in his rookie season and now he will probably start his first Sporting KC game this weekend. Here is the video of Peter Vermes and Didic talking about the move which has been in the cards since preseason.

Tim Melia: Save of the Week

While Sporting have had their struggles as of late, Tim Melia has still been a shinning star in the net over the course of the season. He was awarded for that good play by winning MLS Save of the Week for his double save against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Watch for yourself:

Speaking of Tim Melia, the club also did a Behind the Shield piece for him at the New York Red Bulls game as well as he and Adrian Zendejas at practice.

Kitman

A lot goes into a professional soccer club. One of the more overlooked aspects of that is the role of the Kitman. In this brief video Mike Flaherty makes an appearance but this shows a lot more of the people who report to Mike and what they do. From handling equipment, packing and even playing assistant referee at practice.

If you’ve never seen it, there is a video from a couple of years ago that actually follows Mike as well as a few other Kitmen around the league that’s worth the five minutes of your time.

#Gershow

Although it seems so long ago after two straight defeats, Sporting KC won their last home match in beautiful fashion. Gerso Fernandes had his coming out party as he exceeded his entire season output by bagging a hat trick in front of the Cauldron and a packed Children’s Mercy Park. Here is another installment of Behind the Shield.

The last time there was a hat trick for a Kansas City team they were called the Wizards. Birahim Diop put three past the San Jose Earthquakes.

Benny from Range!

Did you know that since 2011 Benny Feilhaber has the third most goals from outside the 18-yard box behind only Sebastian Giovinco and Thierry Henry? Jump to the 4:30 mark to see the first.

And here is the 10th one.

It’s been over a month since that happened, but you know you want to go back and watch the other eight as well.

Media Game

During halftime of the Seattle beat down SKC invited members of the media out to play a chaotic game. It isn’t always (or ever) pretty but there are three members of The Blue Testament staff in the game, so it’s worth checking out. Our site manager Thad Bell, Editor Cody Bradley and contributor and former MLS beat writer Bob Rusert. So no matter which team you are pulling for, TBT won because we were on both teams.

Player’s Choice Awards

Like high school, the team voted on awards that really matter. Best dressed and funniest teammate. Don’t let the preview pane fool you. You have to watch to see who wins.

Seth Sinovic on KCTV5

The local boy got a feature on KCTV5 (where his sister happens to work) but it wasn’t his first. Apparently they did a story on his team when he was playing youth soccer in KC back when he was just a kid.

Graham Zusi’s First Pitch

To cap off this Blue Links we’ll leave you with Graham Zusi representing the United States Men’s National Team as they prepare in Colorado for their upcoming friendly. He was able to throw out a first pitch at a Colorado Rockies game.
