We would like to announce the first ever The Blue Testament Player of the Week award. It will feature players that have competed in the last week with a Kansas City connection. For last week we have players from Sporting Kansas City, FC Kansas City and the Swope Park Rangers.
All three professional outdoor teams came away with draws last weekend. Sporting Kansas City went scoreless in San Jose, FC Kansas City scored twice but so did the Seattle Reign and the Swope Park Rangers came away with a 2-2 draw that featured 3 penalties and the appearance of Drogba.
Sporting KC also had the midweek US Open Cup game as well where they easily destroyed Minnesota again, this time by a 4-0 final.
The nominated players in random order for last week are:
Alexa Newfield (FCKC) – Scored her 2nd goal of season to take lead against Seattle Reign
Gerso (SKC) – Has been on a hot streak lately, a goal and his first assist against Minnesota
Nansel Selbol (SPR) – Was dangerous all game for Swope Park and notched the second goal on a PK
Yael Averbuch (FCKC) – Part of a three player save to prevent a goal and had the assist on the Blues’ second goal
Parker Maher (SPR) – Maybe a little overlooked but had a great game against Phoenix
Tim Melia (SKC) – Not a lot to do in the Open Cup match but two clean sheets is always good.
Matt Besler (SKC) – Playing as well as he has played in a couple years and a big part of two straight shutouts
Maegen Kelly (FCKC) – Late header to level the score at 2-2 just when her team needed her the most
Kevin Oliveira (SPR) – Controlled the mid well and put home the first goal on a PK
