Matt Taylor Calls it a Career - Former Sporting Player Update

Update on former Kansas City Players.

MLS: CONCACAF Champions League-Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Sporting Kansas City Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Matt Taylor, Sporting Kansas City’s (then the Kansas City Wizards) first round pick in the 2004 MLS Superdraft called time on his career after playing professionally for almost 13 years. Taylor spent the last 10 years of his career in the German lower divisions, but he didn’t leave KC fans with a great final impression in his time here. Most fans from that time will remember Taylor’s final game for KC, coming on as a substitute and having at least one good open look at KC chased an equalizer up a man against DC United in MLS Cup 2004. Wide open in the box, all Taylor could do was roll a timid shot to DC goalkeeper Nick Rimando as DC won MLS Cup that year 3-2. That was Taylor’s lone season in KC, appearing 17 times and scoring three goals. He was selected by Chivas USA in the 2005 expansion draft and played three seasons there. After some time in the lower divisions in the US he moved to Germany and spent the next 10 years with seven different teams all over the Germany lower divisions, spending time in the Bundesliga 2 with TuS Koblenz and FSV Frankfurt in the late 00’s and early 10’s. He finished his career with Kickers Offenbach in the German fourth division this last season.

Also this week, short time Sporting KC loanee, Kris Tyrpak scored a pair of goals for San Antonio this last week in a 3-1 win over the Tulsa Roughnecks.

Here is the rest of this week’s update.
