Bruce Arena announced his roster for the Gold Cup today. In addition to veterans Matt Besler and Graham Zusi, Arena called up Sporting Kansas City forward Dom Dwyer.
Arena is using the Gold Cup, at least the early round, to take a look at new players including Dwyer who became a U.S. citizen earlier this year. Dwyer has 5 goals this season but has averaged double digit goals the last three seasons.
“It’s a good roster with a nice blend of experienced, veteran players and a good group of newcomers as well,” Arena said via press release. “There’s good balance at every position. We can play a number of ways, and I think all these players have a desire to play for the U.S. and will be working hard. It will be a competitive camp. They are going to be highly motivated, very coachable and they have an opportunity to make a statement.”
Arena can call in up to six new players from the 40 man roster after the group stage and prior to the knockout round.
